Luanda Gets Home Appliance Assembly Line

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, inaugurated this Friday morning the first assembly line for household appliances of the Beko brand, a manufacturing unit of the IMEX INDÚSTRIA group.

According to Minister Victor Fernandes, the emergence of this industrial unit represents the resilience of entrepreneurs operating in the Angolan market.

Victor Fernandes also highlighted the creation of more jobs, especially for young people, which is why the Ministry will continue to work to ensure that the conditions for doing business in Angola are always the best.

According to the government official, the household appliance sector is essentially dependent on imports, and the customs duties associated with these consumer goods are still low. The objective is to create conditions for them to increase production and review these duties to ensure that production is mostly done in Angola.

Victor Fernandes assured that the national market is open to all who wish to invest in it and urged other entrepreneurs to view this private initiative as a reflection of that very fact.

This assembly line is the group's first on the continent and represents a $2.5 million investment, with an installed capacity to assemble 200,000 household appliance parts per year.

This investment generated 80 new jobs. Present at the event were the Secretary of State for Commerce, Amadeu Leitão Nunes, national directors and consultants from MINDCOM, partners of IMEX INDÚSTRIA, and other guests.
